gulls circle
the ball goes round and round
the ‘G
clouds part
Pendlebury pierces
the defence
light winds
the dull game makes the air
heavier
defensive set up
only the clouds
breaking lines
officially winter
all the flow in our play
freezes up
afternoon sun buried
the umpire calls
for a ball up
afternoon shadows
gradually extending
our lead
waiting for a goal
the bitterness
of the tea
