AFL Finals Week 1 – Geelong v Fremantle: Boy am I happy (or 23 ways to skin a cat – tissues anyone?)

They say a week is a long time in footy.  Last week I was angry.  Boy I was really angry.  It had been an emotional week with having to put up with so much hullabaloo.  I won’t repeat myself (and I’m sure many of the Almanac readers are very thankful for that) but with the rain threatening down at the cattery all I could think about (without getting more angry) was where was the bloody roof?

It is amazing how a game of footy can change your whole psych, your view of the world.  How one minute you are screaming abuse at the AFL then in what seems like an eternity (but is really only a couple of hours) you are deliriously happy.  Yes, it was only one game but this was a win for the ages, for all those who had been down trodden and abused for following a team that supposedly stood for nothing.  It was a win against the “greatest team of all” (their words not mine) and against the biggest odds.  It was a victory at a ground that Geelong never lose at and in a town where the local paper thought it appropriate to mock the dockers with a box of tissues.  However, I would like to very politely, offer the box (unused) back at the folk of Geelong, but can you please leave some for Eddie?

Boy I am happy!  I have managed to find 23 ways to Skin a Cat – Ballantyne, Barlow, Clarke, Crowley, Dawson, Duffield, de Boer, Fyfe, Hill, Mayne, McPharlin (my first love), Mundy, Mzungu, Neale, Pavlich (Supa Pav), Pearce, Sandilands, Sheridan, Spurr, Suban, Sutcliffe, Walters and the Puppa bear of them all, Ross the Boss (Lyon).

There is still a long way to go (I know) and I will not take anything for granted, but today has been an amazing day.  A day full of purple awesomeness.   GO FREO and boy, am I happy!

I bet Dips mentions his sphincter in this thread!

  2. I didn’t know Subuaco had a roof?

Well done Diane. Dockers were too good. See you in the GF. All sphincters will be tight then.

That is correct Dipmeister it is a cauldron – no roof needed. If Freo get in my dot will be tighter than a snare drum….

Well done Di. It was an amazing and well deserved win. So much for the home ground advantage!!!
