2013 – A Season In Song: Round 7,8,9 – An Early Bye

With Champy away on assignment for a few weeks, it wasn’t until after Round 9 that the next batch of tunes was offered.

Despite the triple entendre of the Bombers/Docklands related tune, it passed unnoticed by the selectors, as did my “change trains at South Yarra” attempt to repeat the earlier success of “Frankston Line”, even though I was smugly proud of the “… Hampton not Highett …” reference.

I started noticing that Greg seemed to have his favourites/regulars who got a guernsey every week; had I been rewarded enough, or had the coach stamped my papers already? Had I squibbed it at a crucial contest, and would I pay for it for the rest of the year?

High Rise Bombers (Leaps and Bounds – P Kelly)
The sad lament of an Essendon supporter lost at his own home ground

I’m up on the bridge
Looking over the platforms
I’m at Spencer Street
The buildings so high
I’m not sure where I go
Someone help me please

I’m a member, I’m a member
No need to pay
Which gate today
All the concrete towers
Around and around
I’m lost, I can’t even
Find the ground
I’m a member, I’m a member
I got my Bombers card
I got my Bombers card
Down past the buskers
And near the food outlets
This hill is so windy
I’ve found the big TV screen
I’m a member, I’m an member
I can’t find the ground
I can’t find the ground
The ground’s had three names
But its known as the Docklands
On the ABC
Around and around
I’m lost, I can’t even
Find the ground
I’m a member, I’m an member
I’m a member, I’m an member
I’m a member, I’m an member
I can’t find the ground
I can’t find the ground
I can’t find the ground
I can’t find the ground
Sandringham Line (Cinnamon Girl)
I wanna live
On the Sandringham line
I could be happy
To spend all my life
On the Sandringham line
No Bulldog supporters
Of Magpies they’re light
You won’t see no Kangas
Their President you might
The Sandringham Line
They don’t pay their taxes
Spend July at the snow
A much better class
Of person you know
The Sandringham Line
Down past Gardenvale
At Hampton not Highett
Have brunch in Church St
At The Pantry they fry it
The Sandringham Line
I’m making more dough now
The rates are real low now
I gotta take my chance
Its almost as good as south of France
Yeah…yeah…yeah
